Mobile puncture repair in Manchester
A screw in the tread does not have to mean a new tyre. If it can be repaired safely to British Standard, that is what we will quote, at your kerb, any hour.
- Price agreed on the call
- Arrival window before you commit
Most punctures we see are a screw or a nail sat in the middle of the tread. That sort of damage can usually be repaired properly, for a lot less than the cost of a new tyre. So that is where we start. We look at the tyre first and quote a repair if it is safe, not a replacement because it pays better.
We are fully mobile and we cover Manchester and all of Greater Manchester, 24 hours a day. The van comes to your drive, your work or the roadside with everything needed to do the job on the spot. No booking a slot at a depot, no sitting in a waiting room.
Ring 0161 694 6263, tell us where you are and what you're driving, and describe the damage if you can see it. You get an honest steer, with the price and arrival window agreed on the phone before we set off.
How we handle a puncture
- Repair firstIf the damage passes the British Standard checks, we quote the repair. We do not upsell a tyre you don't need.
- A proper plug and patchTyre off the rim, casing inspected from the inside, combination repair fitted. Not a temporary string plug.
- New tyre if it fails the checksGive us your registration when you ring and the van carries the right size, so an unrepairable tyre still gets sorted in one visit.
- Price agreed before we set offRepair or replacement, you know the cost on the phone. Nothing changes at the kerb.
When a puncture can be repaired, and when it can't
We work to BS AU 159, the British Standard for tyre repairs. In plain words: the damage has to sit in the central three quarters of the tread, the part that meets the road. The hole can be no bigger than 6mm across. And the tyre has to be sound otherwise: legal tread depth, no cracking, no botched previous repair, no damage inside from being driven flat. Tick all of that and a repair is the right fix.
The repair is done properly, not with a string plug pushed in from the outside. The wheel comes off the car and the tyre comes off the rim, so we can inspect the inside of the casing. That inspection is the whole point: it is the only way to know the tyre was not damaged while it was losing pressure. If the casing is sound, we fit a combination plug and patch from the inside, refit the tyre, rebalance the wheel and torque the nuts to spec.
Some tyres cannot be repaired, and we will not pretend otherwise. Anything in the sidewall or the shoulder is a replacement, no exceptions: those areas flex too much for a patch to hold. The same goes for a run flat that has been driven while deflated, a hole wider than 6mm, or a casing with the cords showing. If that is what we find, we show you the damage, explain why, and fit a new tyre on the same visit.
Before you call
How do you decide if my puncture is repairable?
We work to BS AU 159, the British Standard for tyre repairs. The puncture has to be in the central three quarters of the tread, no wider than 6mm, and the tyre must be otherwise sound: legal tread depth, no sidewall damage, no sign it has been run flat. We take the tyre off the rim and check the inside before repairing, because damage in the casing does not always show on the outside.
Can you repair a run flat tyre?
Usually not. Once a run flat has been driven with little or no pressure, the reinforced sidewall can be damaged in ways you cannot see from the outside, and most manufacturers say no repair after that. If yours has only lost a bit of pressure and the damage is in the tread, ring and describe it, and we'll tell you straight what your options are.
Should I drive on the flat tyre to meet you somewhere easier?
No. Even a few hundred yards on a flat grinds the sidewall between the rim and the road, and that usually turns a cheap repair into a full replacement. Stay where you are if it is safe to do so. We come to you, that is the whole point of a mobile service.
I used a can of sealant from my boot kit. Can the tyre still be repaired?
Sometimes. Sealant is a get-you-home measure, not a repair. We take the tyre off the rim, clean the sealant out and inspect the casing. If the puncture passes the British Standard checks, it can still be repaired properly. Tell us on the phone that sealant has been used so we allow for the extra work.
